The most common reason why your blog may be down (and there are others—1/ there may be a system wide outage from either WP Engine or Cloudflare; 2/ you might have inadvertently altered a setting within your blog or via WordPress or JetPack), is because of scheduled maintenance. we have an automated update/maintenance window scheduled to run weekly (Sat/Sun between 12:00 AM - 5:59 AM MDT).

The purpose of this window is to on a weekly basis check for the latest versions of all your WordPress plugins and your blog theme. This is an important task that maintains security + conflict patches and normal plugin and theme improvement. In most cases the time your blog may be down for maintenance is quite minimal, less than a minute for most blogs to just several minutes for others. During this process, we scan for updates and install them after first taking a snapshot of the current state of your blog. Almost always the updates are processed efficiently. On occasion, if the post- install scan detects any change to your blog because of the update (conflict related), it will roll back your install to the version at the time of the update. This prevents conflicting updates to take down your blog which can and has happened in the past before this process improvement.

This automated system may interfere with your scheduled post if WordPress or your newsletter provider detects that the blog is not accessible. Do not panic. Your blog will only be down for maintenance for a very, very short time. Because we have set maintenance for Mountain Time (BoardingArea time zone), we do have the flexibility to change your maintenance window if you find that your scheduling typically falls within the maintenance window. Just let us know.

Hopefully this explains the most common reason why your blog may be down.
