It happens—you get the seven-year itch (or some other crazy idea or a really good idea) with your blog and think that your content has outgrown the blog name from earlier years. We know it happens and is all too happy to help you along with this change. It comes about with some discipline to ensure that the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed. Here's a general primer for you on what needs to be done when considering or just starting the process.

BoardingArea Housekeeping

  • Update BoardingArea blogger feed with author page, tagline, etc.

  • Update BoardingArea contact sheets

  • Update anything in accounting if needed

  • Update Google Analytics and Clicky with the change

Social Media and Marketing

  • Update Social Media accounts

  • Update newsletter (Feedblitz, Mail Chimp, or another service) to reflect the name change

  • Update email addresses and email signatures

Front End

  • Create tagline

  • Get a logo

  • Create a placeholder for BA

  • Implement logo on website

  • Skim the website to ensure the verbiage uses the new name, including contact and about pages

  • Find and replace option to see if blog name exists in paragraphs as text

  • Update affiliates and disclosures

  • Make any necessary edits/changes to the theme per blogger requests

  • Ensure the new social media is linked properly

Back End

  • Domain change and update

  • Creating a new Google Search Console property

  • Updating social media auto posting

  • Tracking the new domain on SEMrush to catch any errors

Much of this falls on your support staff—us. But there are things specifically for you to get done:

  1. Need tagline and short bio with the new name

  2. If any of your financials/accounting info changes with the name, please email accounting directly

  3. Logo, are you wanting our team to tackle this, or do you have someone else?

  4. Update your email addresses and let us know of the changes for our records

  5. Update your contact and about pages with new branding

  6. For any relationships you have with affiliates, you may want to notify them and update any disclosures you have with them, etc.
