K Club

Sort of a real world version of an "OK" Club

The K Club originated from a blogger visit to the House of Miles in 2014 by Kendra (Points and Pixie Dust) in which we created the idea on the fly—she was goal-oriented and we wanted her to pay attention to how her blog was progressing. The original 1K is the measure that a blog has at one point achieved 1,000 sessions/visits daily for a continuous period of seven days. This could be any seven continuous days on a rolling timeline. The seven-day period was chosen because we often saw blogs do well on weekdays but fall off on weekends and wanted bloggers to figure out how to build readership for the weekend whether with recaps, highlights, archived material, etc. And blogger after blogger accepted those challenges.

Upon achieving any K Club level we would send out stickers commemorating that level. Here are some examples of what these stickers look like:

Here's the messaging that originally accompanied the K Club stickers that were sent to each blogger that earned a status level: "Blogging is hard work and everyone here at House of Miles recognizes this. That’s why we think you should be honored for special blogging milestones. We have created milestones that recognize your progress—similar to a loyalty program's status levels. We have 1K, 2.5K, 5K, 10K, 20K, 30K, 40K, 50K, and 60K levels (and hope to one day award even higher milestones).

These milestones represent a blog’s ability to grow its readership to the next level. For example, the 1K club represents that a blog has at one point achieved 1,000 sessions/visits daily for a continuous period of seven days.

The idea is to have some fun, recognize the steps in success with your blog, provide visual goals in identifying traffic accomplishments and provide encouragement in how you think about the traffic you have (figuring out a strategy for weekend readership is always a challenge).

Enclosed is a sticker that you have earned. Place it on the back of your BoardingArea metal luggage tags and so on, with effort, you’ll have a whole collection of stickers and that’s a good thing."

The program evolved to include special stickers for events such as attending BAcon, visiting the House of Miles, and even being honored as a Darren Booth Spirit Award winner. The BoardingArea bag tags were a hit and here's what a bag tag might look like with a few stickers.

With the pending introduction of the BoardingArea dashboard, stickers will also be displayed electronically on the anchor page of each blog's dashboard.
